Question: A friend wants to buy a running business which is a convenience store. 60% sales consist of vape and cigarettes, and rest of 40% are regular convenience store items. Will the income be halal if he continues to sell vape and cigarettes with same proportion?

Sheikh, I would like to know if there would be any scope in using puberty blockers for a specific situation of an autistic child who is under the full care of a single mother. Any Sharʻī guidance on this would be beneficial.

Answer: In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. As salāmu ‘alaykum wa rahmatullāhi wa barakātuh. Introduction

Youth with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD), including those with severe autism, may be impacted by pubertal changes more so than individuals without these disabilities. Puberty blockers are medications that temporarily halt the physical changes associated with puberty by inhibiting the release of hormones responsible for maturation. Medical professionals may recommend puberty blockers on a case-by-case basis after assessing benefit versus harm.

Medical Consideration

This answer will not consider the known or unknown physical, mental, psychosocial health, or cognitive effects of puberty blockers. Those important factors should be reviewed with an endocrinologist with appropriate expertise.

Islamic Guidance Allah taʻālā has created mankind in the best forms and guides it through stages of development and growth. He states:

لَقَدْ خَلَقْنَا الْإِنسَانَ فِي أَحْسَنِ تَقْوِيمٍ

Indeed, We created humans in the best form. (al-Tīn 4)

هُوَ الَّذِي خَلَقَكُم مِّن تُرَابٍ ثُمَّ مِن نُّطْفَةٍ ثُمَّ مِنْ عَلَقَةٍ ثُمَّ يُخْرِجُكُمْ طِفْلًا ثُمَّ لِتَبْلُغُوا أَشُدَّكُمْ ثُمَّ لِتَكُونُوا شُيُوخًا ۚ وَمِنكُم مَّن يُتَوَفَّىٰ مِن قَبْلُ ۖ وَلِتَبْلُغُوا أَجَلًا مُّسَمًّى وَلَعَلَّكُمْ تَعْقِلُونَ

He is the One who created you from dust, then from a drop of semen, then from a clot. After that, He takes you out as an infant. Then, (He makes you grow) so that you reach your full maturity, and, thereafter, become old - and some of you die earlier - and so that you reach the appointed term, and so that you understand. (Ghāfir 67)

As a rule, these stages of human development should be allowed to run their course. To alter them in any meaningful way would constitute altering the creation of Allah. To which, Shayṭān promised to misguide mankind when he said, “I will command them, whereby they shall alter the creation of Allah.” (al-Nisā’ 119). Similarly, a hadith narrated by Imam Bukhārī indicates that Allah and His Prophet ﷺ curse those who change those features created by Allah.[1]

Permissible Exceptions

However, there are some exceptional instances in which puberty blockers may be permitted. If a disease state causes pubertal hormones to be elevated to pathological levels, such as those found in precocious puberty and other endocrine disorders, blockers are permitted to treat the disease state with the intent of restoring normalcy. In severe developmental disorders, managing a patient’s hygiene, e.g., menstruation, or emotional states, e.g., testosterone-driven violence, may require hormonal suppression. This should only be done in scenarios where there are no other permissible alternatives and is necessary for the adequate care of the patient. The situation should require suppression as a matter of need and not simply out of ease.[2]

Conclusion

For the uncommon instances in which puberty suppression is permitted, there are currently four available puberty blockers: Goserelin, Histerlin, Triptorelin, and Leuprolide. Preference for each drug is in the order listed. One should only move on to the next drug listed if the prior one is unavailable due to cost or supply.[3]

فتاوى قاضيخان، فخر الدين حسن بن منصور الأوزجندي الفرغاني الحنفي، دار الكتب العلمية، 3:313 وفي الفتاوي إذا أراد أن يقطع إصبعا زائدة أو شيئا آخر قال أبو نصر رحمه الله تعالى إن كان الغالب على من قطع مثل ذلك الهلاك فإنه لا يفعل لأنه تعريض النفس للهلاك. وأن كان الغالب هو النجاة فهو في سعة من ذلك.

تكملة فتح الملهم، مفتي تقي العثماني، دار إحياء التراث العربي، 4:169 والحاصل: أن كل ما يفعل في الجسم من زيادة أو نقص من أجل الزينة بما يجعل الزيادة أو النقصان مستمرا مع الجسم وبما يبدو منه أنه كان في أصل الخلقة هكذا فإنه تلبيس و تغيير منهي عنه. وأما ما تزينت به المراة لزوجها من تحمير الأيدي، أو الشفاه او العارضين بما لا يلتبس بأصل الخلقة، فإنه ليس داخلا في النهي عند جمهور العلماء. و أما قطع الإصبع الزائدة و نحوها؛ فإنه ليس تغييرا لخلق الله، وإنه من قبيل إزالة عيب أو مرض، فأجازه أكثر العلماء خلافا لبعضهم.

بیماری کی وجہ سے پلاسٹک سرجری کروانا

سوال : ایک شخص کے ناک میں ایسی تکلیف ہے کہ جس کی وجہ سے اس کو نزلہ، زکام بہت جلدی ہو جاتا ہے، ڈاکٹروں کی رائے ہے کہ پلاسٹک سرجری کروا لینے کے بعد وہ تکلیف دور ہو سکتی ہے، نیز پلاسٹک سرجری سے خوبصورتی بھی مقصود ہے، تو کیا وہ شخص پلاسٹک سرجری کراسکتا ہے؟

الجواب : حامداً ومصلياً ومسلماً

خوبصورتی اور زینت کے لیے پلاسٹک سرجری کی اجازت نہیں ہے۔ البتہ نزلہ زکام کی تکلیف مستقل ہوا اور سرجری سے دور ہو سکتی ہو تو اس کی اجازت ہے، یہ فیصلہ مبتلی بہ کی دیانت پر ہے کہ وہ حقیقہ کس مقصد کے لیے سرجری کروا رہا ہے۔ فقط واللہ تعالیٰ اعلم ۔

Question:

I am a student of Sharia law, Alhamdulillah. As a student, I am interested in understanding the rulings regarding masājid here in the West, because I am new to Canada. I have heard that these places are considered Islamic centers rather than proper masājid, as they are in Muslim countries. According to the Hanafi madhab, women in their menstrual period (ḥā’iḍah) are not permitted to enter the masājid. However, I have heard an opinion here that allows them to enter masājid, which has caused me some confusion. Could you please guide me on the rulings regarding this matter?

Question: What is our response to Hadeeth rejectors below: “What is important to understand is that only Allâh will explain His Book and not anyone else. The following ayah (verse) makes that abundantly clear. 1. The Explanation Of Al-Qur’ân Is By Allâh (God) Alone:

ولا يأتونك بمثل إلا جئناك بالحق وأحسن تفسيرا

Chapter 25 verse 33: “and no question do they bring to thee (I.E. Muhammad) but we (I.E. Allâh) reveal to thee (I.E. Muhammad) the truth and the ah’sanal tafseer (best explanation) (thereof).” Important: The Arabic words at the end of this verse are Ah’sanal Tafseer! Tafseer appears only once in the entire Qur’ân. Tafseer in this context and verse means Best Explanation and In other words the best explanation and interpretation off al-Qur’ân is by Allâh, the author alone.

2. Allâh explains through Tafseer, meaning repeating the same point in various ways, as stated in chapter 17 verse 41. These verses also emphasize that even Muhammad, the messenger of Allâh cannot explain Al-Qur’ân!

ولقد صرفنا في هذا القرآن ليذكروا وما يزيدهم إلا نفوراً

Chapter 17 verse 41: “we (I.E. Allâh) have explained (things) in various (ways) (sâr’rafnâ) in this qur’ân, in order that they may receive admonition, but it only increases their flight (from the truth)!”

Chapter 11 verse 1: alîf. Lâm. Râ. (this is) a book (I.E. Qur’ân), with verses basic or fundamental (of established meaning), further explained in detail, - from one who is wise (I.E. Allâh) and well-acquainted (with all things):” Is what this Hadeeth rejector is saying correct? If not, then kindly explain in detail for the benefit of the Ummah.

Question: I am trying to do some work outs to stay fit and lose some weight. There are women only gyms where I live with no cameras, but the issue is that some women there may be wearing tight clothes like leggings. The other alternative is to watch work out videos and in these are well the work out instructor is also wearing leggings and a top that shows part of the abdomen (above the navel). Is it permissible in this case to watch the work out videos instead of going to the gym, as there is less uncovering in the videos?
